Work Out of the Day

My home away from home is a little farm in Southern Illinois. Peaceful and relaxing, it is the place that I go to get away from my exciting, packed Southern California city.

While it may be a pseudo-vacation, it doesn't mean I can't get a workout in. As a six-times-a-week gym rat, I have to do some type of activity to keep me sane. But run in the tick and chigger infested weeds? No way! Ticks literally suck and chiggers will itch like hell. 

My solution: Crossfit on the Farm. 

Our farm's barn, it turns out, is the perfect open area to have a WOD (Crossfit speak: Workout of the Day). You can escape the intense heat of summer or shelter yourself from the rain and snow of winter.

  1. Grab the old rusty barbell my uncle left behind years ago while training for the Navy
  2. Attach two buckets, full of water, to each side and begin with front squats. Complete three sets of ten.
  3. From there, move quickly to a barn bench and complete 40 pull ups in 4 minutes.
  4. Push arms to a full fatigue by tossing hay barrels into an old tractor trailer, and follow with push ups until failure. 
  5. To finish the circuit, move straight to 100 gut-pushing sit ups.
Just another example that no matter where you are in the world, you can always find a way to complete an intense workout to keep you fit.
